Smoking and Impotence

It promotes memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, causes rapid skin aging, anxiety, impotence, fatigue, headaches hoarseness of voice, smokers cough, peptic ulcers, senility, cramps in the legs stained teeth and nails, hiatal hernia, heart disease cancer, osteoporosis and the list can go on and on and on…

The innocent smoker:

Second hand smoke is potentially more dangerous than mainstream smoke because it is unfiltered and the innocent smoker is not used to smoking therefore second hand smoke is jarring to his system. As more and more passive smokers are now getting aware of this, it has become a human rights issue. Second hand smoke increases the risk of heart disease and lung cancer and it has been found that nonsmoking spouses of smokers have a shorter life expectancy than nonsmoking spouses of nonsmokers.

Dietary guidelines to stop smoking

The best way to give up smoking is NOW! Whilst you are reading this, make a firm decision, go cold turkey and stop smoking. There is no support program more effective as ceasing to smoke and working on lost health. Most smokers have a poor appetite because nicotine reduces appetite and increases the urge to eat spicy, salty and fried foods. In order to regain health it is important to replenish your diet with antioxidants such as beta- carotene, Vitamin C, A, E Selenium found in fresh fruits and vegetables. Fruit &Vegetables with a high water content should be selected to balance out the drying effects of smoking. Increasing the fiber content of your diet further helps to detoxify because the fiber in foods seeks up the toxins and flushes them out of the body.

Also smoking has a laxative effect and most people are habituated to smoke in the mornings in order to pass stools. Giving up smoking in such individuals may cause constipation. A high fiber diet rich in wheat bran, whole pulses, Jowar, bajri, fruits & vegetables would provide them the necessary bulk to pass regular motion those who wish to give up smoking should consume an alkaline diet because it helps reduce the craving for sweets and reduces the urge to smoke. An alkaline detoxification diet should include herbal teas, sprouted grains, leafy Vegetables, high water content fruits and Vegetables, soups and juices. It should include raw salads and some nuts as in almonds, raw peanuts, juice of leafy vegetables like spinach, mint, coriander and lettuce leaves. Those foods that help to detoxify the body also help during the withdrawal phase.

Most smokers tend to put on weight soon after they stop smoking. This is because smoking reduces appetite and when they give up their appetite returns back to normal. Therefore it is important to support the detoxification with some exercise routine. The detox diet, which is basically high fiber, low fat and alkaline in nature, along with an exercise schedule will help the smokers to maintain their weight after giving up smoking.

Smoking damages the blood vessels that a man needs to get and keep an erection. Smokers are four times likely to be unable to get and keep an erection than non smokers. The most direct effect of smocking on man’s sexual performance is that it constricts blood vessels, and thus can prevent a firm erection by restricting blood flow to the penis (smoking impotence).The more you smoke the more you are adversely affecting your sex life.

Helpful Tips

* Drink plenty of fluids like fruit juices, vegetable juices, warm water throughout the day to help in cleansing the body and providing antioxidants to lesson the free radical irritation during the detox period.
* Munch carrot sticks cucumber strips, radish and plenty of raw vegetables as oral substitutes to deal with the psychological ties to smoking.
* Have a positive attitude towards health and life in general.
* Stay busy to prevent boredom and to keep your mind off smoking.
* Get another smoker, to stop smoking with you so that you can discuss common problems & get each other’s support.
* Indulge in health treatments such as a massage, sauna, steam, and teeth cleansing to remove cigarette stains.
* If your craving to smoke arises, take a brisk walk, or drink tea or do things with your hands, or exercise, or go for a swim or just practice breathing & relaxation techniques, smile (even if you don’t feel like) and be thankful that you are not smoking.
